David Price Takes Mound For Red Sox Vs. Rangers Eyeing Bounce-Back Start

BOSTON — David Price will be hoping to put the past behind him when he takes the mound Tuesday night.

The veteran left-hander gets the start for the Red Sox’s game against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park seeking just his second win in the month of June. Price has allowed 10 runs and 21 hits combined in his last two starts, ballooning his ERA to 4.74 ahead of his final outing before the All-Star break.

“The biggest thing with David is, like any pitcher, to pitch to quality locations and execute,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said before Tuesday’s game. “… He’s made some mistakes, particularly in the middle of the plate with his two-seamer against some right-handers that have leaked back to the middle. So, we’re doing what we can to minimize those mistakes.”

Veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan was activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier Tuesday, but it will be Sandy Leon batting ninth and doing the catching for Price.

The Rangers will counter Price with right-hander A.J. Griffin, who sports a 2.93 ERA in 43 innings pitched this season.
