The Boston Celtics made a splash in free agency, although they lost out on Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors. But who says they’re done making moves before the 2016-17 season?
Rumors of potential Celtics trades dominated the NBA landscape both before and during June’s draft, and two of the players they were linked to — Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler and Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor — “are said to be still available,” according to a report by the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett on Tuesday.
The problem for the Celtics now is both the Bulls and 76ers reportedly were interested in Providence College point guard Kris Dunn, so the C’s could have used the No. 3 pick as a valuable trade asset in a draft-day deal. But that option no longer is on the table, and even back then the asking price apparently was way too high or the C’s.
Furthermore, Bulpett’s sources said the Celtics are interested in trades if teams “come around to their price.”
That might seem like a stretch at this point, but at least the option appears to still be there for the Celtics. So don’t fall in love with Boston’s roster for the 2016-17 season quite yet.
